Project Area : 10 districts of Karnali Province (Humla, Dolpa, Mugu, West Rukum, Dailekh, Kalikot, Salyan, Jajarkot, Surkhet and Jumla) and 21 districts of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces (Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Kanchanpur, Bajhang, Bajura, Doti, Achham, Kailali, East Rukum, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Kapilbastu, Rupandehi, West Nawalparasi)
Objective of Project
• To contribute towards poverty reduction through the improvement of access for local people (particularly disadvantaged groups) to basic social public services, economic resources, and opportunities by availing of river crossing facilities within a one-hour detour.
Project Output
• Survey, design, cost estimate preparation, construction supervision, monitoring and implementation of 985 new trail bridges in three provinces.
• Major maintenance of 136 trail bridges and routine maintenance of 2,139 trail bridges.
• Coordination, monitoring, and supervision with local government (318 municipalities/rural municipalities, Infrastructure Development Organization, and Trail Bridge Strategy Coordination Committee)
• Demonstrated Model Bridges Training (DBMT) provided to 533 persons through 17 events;
• Employment generation for 1,274,439 people through trail bridge construction work;
• 6.135 km access trails constructed in 15 working districts;
• Provided technical assistance to replace 30 Tuins with safer bridges;
• 1,239,131 people benefitted from the connectivity provided by bridges;
• Checked bridge survey, design, and cost estimates;
• Monitored quality works and cost estimates;
• Conducted quality test of construction materials;
• Forwarded physical progress report data to DoLIDAR;
• Conducted bridge inspection and final inspection of the bridge; and
• Periodic (every 5 year) inspection of bridges and updating DBR with bridge conditions were performed.
