Project Objective
• To enhance access to quality of drinking water, improved sanitation status and hygiene behaviour, local governance and maintenance of WASH facilities, and to empower local women and socially excluded groups.
Project Output
• Five new construction, 31 major and 13 minor renovations, and rehabilitation of drinking water supply schemes were completed;
• A concept of healthy homes was promoted through smokeless kitchens and construction of improved cooking stoves in 34 households;
• Water Users and Sanitation Committee (WUSCs) members and Village Maintenance Workers (VMWs) were trained in construction, operation and maintenance of water schemes, sustainability, management and bookkeeping, among others.
• Elected representatives from rural municipalities and municipalities were trained to sustain the declaration of and practices in Open Defecation-Free (ODF) areas;
• The existing women networks at the rural/urban municipality levels were engaged to advocate WASH issues, rights and women leadership; and
• Female and community health volunteers were oriented to total sanitation/ sustaining ODF (solid waste management, point of use, use of toilet, hand washing, personal and environmental cleanliness).
