Program Area : Doti District (Pokhari, Gajari, Gairagaun, Khirsen, Kalikasthan, Warpata, Tijali, Basudevi, Tikhatar, Gadsera, Kedarakhada, Barchhen, Ghagalgaun, Mannakapadi and Lana-Kedareshwor- 15 VDCs)
Objective of Program
• Reduce vulnerability and improve short-term feed security among the drought-hit populations
• Provide a basic safety-net and future protection measures through the creation of quick-impact economic opportunities and construction of productive assets focused on restoring livelihoods
• Address high rates of anaemia among children under 5 years of age through a micro-nutrient intervention.
Program Output
• Identified drought hit and food insecure households and mobilized them to organize into self-help groups
• Feasibility, design and construction of community infrastructure projects was finalized
• Community mobilization for labour intensive projects
• Training and orientation for sustainability were successfully conducted
• A total of 1289 MT of Rice and 161 MT of pulses were distributed to targeted HH for labor contribution of 40 days.
• Created market access through construction of feeder roads, trails, bridges,
culverts, cold storage facilities and collection centres to ensure greater access to markets.
• Motivated the food for work groups in creating or joining local saving credit groups or cooperatives for a sustainable organizational capacity and also acquiring financial resources for future economic enterprise development.
• Enhanced agricultural productivity through land development, construction of irrigation canals, water harvest tanks, plastic ponds, and application of water efficient micro-irrigation technologies.
• Capacity building of the poor and marginalized households for engaging in long lasting and locally viable agro-enterprises.
