Relief for a physically challenged woman

My name is Mana Kumari Tamang, and I am 39 years old. I reside with my mother, who unfortunately cannot walk. Our livelihood is rooted in farming, supplemented by occasional work as a daily wage laborer. We engage in the rearing of cattle, buffalo, and chickens, which serve as crucial sources of income for us.

Life in our village has been overshadowed by the constant threat of water scarcity. Fetching water has been a challenging task, requiring a considerable trek. The process of collecting and transporting water to our households consumed more than an hour of our daily lives. Although water pipelines existed, their scattered and mismanaged nature across the village resulted in irregular and insufficient water supply. This compelled us to undertake long walks to distant locations in search of wells and streams, adding to the already burdensome responsibilities of maintaining our livelihood.

Recognizing the hardships we faced, SEBAC-Nepal and the Municipality Office collaborated to initiate a project: the construction of Lekhsim B.K. Tole Mathillo Gaun Drinking Water Supply Scheme. The objective was to establish a fully functional water supply system for our community. The project introduced two water storage tanks and metered taps in 44 hous  eholds of Siranchaur, Ward No. 9, Chautara Sangachowkgadi Municipality. The impact of this endeavor has brought immense joy and gratitude to our community.

With this improved water supply system, the days of my physically challenged mother yearning for water are now behind us. She can independently crawl to the newly constructed water tap, where she can bathe, wash her clothes, and collect water even when I am not present. This newfound independence has uplifted her spirits and allowed her to maintain her hygiene with a sense of empowerment. For me, it translates into the ability to focus more on productive work, unburdened by the constant worry of water scarcity at home. The positive change brought about by this project has not only eased our daily struggles but has also instilled hope and encouragement within our household.
